History of Tornados in Illinois

Tornados in Illinois have a history of occurring at any time of the year. Peak tornado season in Illinois is between April and June, most of which occur in the afternoons and evenings. Most recently, a tornado in Naperville, Illinois, touched down on June 20, 2021, as an F3 and damaged approximately 230 homes during its touchdown. How To Prepare For Tornados in Illinois

We wanted to offer some tips to get you and your family better prepared for when the weather takes a turn for the worse. We always recommend having one of our above-ground tornado shelters installed first. Our engineering team has the skills to install your storm shelter in as little as two hours. Here are some additional tips to consider when preparing for tornado season:

• Create an Emergency Kit – You can prepare ahead of time. You should have enough supplies for three days for each family member, including batteries and something to keep you entertained in case leaving is unsafe.
• Remain Up to Date with News – We highly recommend having a radio tuned to your local news station or weather reporter to ensure you remain updated with all the news. Radio is best suited as your cell phone may run out of power, and replacing batteries is more manageable than charging a phone.
• Have a Communication Plan – In the heat of the moment, panic and fear will set in quickly. It’s best to not only have a rehearsed plan to ensure every member of your family knows what they are grabbing but doing these drills gives them something to focus on other than the storm. We recommend having a communication plan with other family members, such as phone numbers to call or radio or whatever works for your family.
